My wife had her 17 week appointment yesterday. We went in and met another one of the doctors who may be the doctor who delivers our first child. Anyway the doctor let us hear the baby’s heart beat. It was amazing. We heard the heart beat one time before but somehow this time it was more special for me. I really look forward to those special moments.
This morning my wife was sitting on the couch for a minute before going to work and she felt the baby flutter. I really wanted to be part of that moment.
Our cockatiel Carlton started squawking his head off. I got upset at the bird, and rather unkindly grabbed his cage and banished him to my office. Here’s the problem I didn’t handle the situation with love and I upset my wife. The action was irrelevant, my attitude was what was relevant. My wife was starting to share with me a very special moment and when a distraction came into the picture I reacted in the wrong way. Jesus told us that temptations to sin are going to happen but we don’t have to give in to them (Matthew 18:17). I had the chance to respond well and graciously (to the bird who just wanted attention) instead I reacted selfishly (as the bible says in the flesh). Paul in Ephesians 4:26-27 said be angry but do not sin. Do not give the devil a opportunity to cause you to fall. I gave the devil the opportunity and instead of diffusing a situation, I made it worst. Next time God willing I will remember to act in grace and not react poorly in the moment.
