Title translation (Well Mr. Clifton, I respond to that challenge on your blog).
So, I’ve been tagged by Jeremy @ Four-Eight-Four. The rules are:
1. Pick up the nearest book of 123 pages or more. No cheating!
2. Turn to page 123.
3. Find the first 5 [full] sentences.
4. Post the next 3 sentences.
5. Tag 5 people.
So, here we go …
“Of those men who went to spy out the land, only Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh remained alive. When Moses told these words to all the people of Israel, the people mourned greatly. And they rose early in the morning and went up to the heights of the hill country, saying, “Here we are. We will go up to the place that the Lord has promised, for we have sinned.”
The text in question is from Numbers 14:38-40, the Bible was the closest book. Near it were a dozen books on sex (for my dissertation), a couple books I’m reading (gosh I need to update my reading thing soon), and a book of quotes from Ronald Reagan. As I read this passage, though I should finish preparing for small group, it really reminded me why I am in church planting. It is not about numbers (no pun intended) or anything like that we are planting a church, it’s about hearing God speak. God said go and as the scripture reports it is wiser to go with God than not go and be removed from his blessing.
I would tag five people but I really am not in to that, bad memories from a 5th grade gym-tag-event-that-must-never-be-mentioned-again (either that or I just don’t want to :).
