Summary of my weekend: Uniquely unique as I travel through this adventure called time learning to love this thing we call human culture.

Saturday:
Our kids slept in till like 8 am. Miracle of miracles for our two kids that generally are up at 6:30 like it or not.
Spicy chicken biscuit from Bojangles for breakfast ordered through the worst take out megaphone in history. Seriously it sounded like a Charlie Brown Episode. This could be yet another reason we never really eat at fast food places. The English to whaa-whaa-whaa translation is very difficult. My Southern to most peoples English is hard enough.
A trip to the Farmer’s Market which was a adventure in buying groceries from commune living hippies. We bought massively awesome veggies. Strolled around downtown Wilmington by the boardwalk as we pushed the kids through the crowd in the massive stroller. Sneaking kisses with my wife, which is much harder with toddler and nearly 6 month old in tow than one would first imagine.
Having my son nap on me as my wife got a bit of time shopping with her mother at a new antique/consignment store in Wilmington called Downey Street. Yes, it is named after Sherlock Holmes. My wife bought us night stands. It only took us 5.5 years of married life before we could get nightstands. I feel like I have a grown up bedroom now, well that and I now have a place to stack all my bedroom books that were cluttering the floor around the bed.
Got to read for a while when my wife was gone, the kids napped, and the dog was remarkably quiet.
We then had dinner of pesto pasta and the third largest zucchini that was on Earth. Those Hippies grow vegetables very well.
Time with my wife which I’m not going to write about. :)
Sunday:
Breakfast made up of slightly dry but really good organic scones bought at the Farmer’s Market.
Early for Church. Miracles do happen even on Sundays.
Quick lunch at home.
Afterwards I drove to father-in-law’s house to meet him to go to a gun show. Neither I nor my father-in-law are quite like the majority of people there. I have never been to a gun show. It was a experience. I am not sure what was most amusing. The first thing I overheard was a conversation about the death of the American economy from two people who I think would make most tea party people rather squeamish in their disdain for the current political landscape. Following this was observing the people at the show. I saw a multi-pierced guy with a shirt that said “You laugh at me because I’m not the same, I laugh at you because you are all the same.” Next to him were the Mormon (perhaps Christians from a ultra-fundamentalist Christian sect by their wardrobe but I think they were Mormons coming from their church) father and his sons checking out semi-automatics (mental note just to be safe don’t crack jokes if they ever come to the door). A few feet from them at another table was a black redneck standing next to a bumper sticker that said “I have a dream” imposed next to a confederate flag next to the SC capital building. That dude had on a ten gallon hat, cowboy boots, and a Big Johnson’s shirt (I didn’t read the shirt). The oddest thing there was the table with a 60s Fender Stratocaster next to a Russian bazooka, missile sold separately.
After getting home, I played on twitter and made reference to having nearly 666 twitter followers (oh the fun artificial goals of life that we can make when I saw earlier that I had 660 something followers). After our kids were awake from naps we went to Kohls and bought nine shirts and a pair of pants for under a $100 bucks. Clearance = awesomeness.
Late dinner of pizza with my wife after we got the kids to bed. Our children decided to teach us that staying out even near their bedtimes will be rewarded by crying, screaming, and adorableness as they finally succumb to sleep. Irradiated the invasion force of ants that were trying to take over our kitchen and before I knew it was already late at night.
Night: A bit of time with my wife. Prayed with her as she went to bed. Got to watch Dr. Who, which is indisputably the greatest British Sci-Fi ever. Updated my twitter background.
Then I got to write about my day of worship, getting to know my father in law, experiencing a very unique side of Southern culture, shopping, time with my family, and enjoying the really blessed life that I have. Marveling at a world that I still do not understand yet know that God loves very much. I am learning to love culture in a new way. It helps that I have been preaching through the minor prophets at church on Wednesday nights and that my daughter is obsessed with the Veggie Tales Jonah movie. As I experience my culture it startles me how varied it is and that God loves all the people in it.
Monday:
Hasn’t happened but due to Memorial Day I have a extended weekend. Ah, the awesomeness of that in and of itself is wonderful.
So far that is my weekend in review. How about for you? What has your weekend looked like?
