poetry: darkness and light

It is night,
the children have gone to bed,
my wife rest beside me,
my life so whole,
but beguiling thoughts tempt my soul.

In the night so much goes on in my head.
I lay awake in my bed,
pondering conversation with those long dead.

The night is half gone,
darkness fills in where there is no light,
but then I remember that darkness
is nothing more than the absence of light.

It is time to rest for it is night.
