Headaches, bad theology, and communion.

1. After 3 weeks we finally got our billing issue resolved at work. SDG! One headache gone!

2. Headache day three. It just doesn’t want to stay dead. Insert zombie joke here.

3. I once attended a church that taught sickness was punishment for having a lack of faith. Rejected that long ago but it still plays in mind.

4. The Pastor of that church got cancer.

5. It amazes me how bad theology can stick around and rear it’s ugly head. Kind of like the Griswold’s cousins.

6. Good news, the well guy came today to look at our well. The bad news, he said we would probably need a new well to replace the 2 year old well that is now out of warranty.

7. I thought about praying to Richard Petty the patron saint of Goody’s after taking my headache medicine today. I then recanted, since I’m a Protestant version of Catholic.

8. Read here about how the Catholic Church in Leeds England refuses boy with Down’s syndrome Holy Communion! Oh, wait, his parents do not attend Mass and he doesn’t seem to get what communion means. How dare they actually practice their religion according to the dictates of their faith?

9. Did you know Paedo-communion (serving kids the sacrament of Communion) is a historic Christian view written as the practice of the Church from at least 250 AD to 1200?

10. I’m still working through the paedo-communion view. What’s your thoughts?

    Communion is a teaching opportunity sacrament. I don’t set an age for it, but see it as an opportunity for teaching, discipleship, and to communicate the outstretched arm of Christ through simple elements.

    Cranmer, in his “Defence of the True and Catholic Doctrine of the Sacrament of the Body and Blood” talks about our understanding of the Lord’s Supper, and one of the points he makes is that the sharing of the meal is easily understood as showing the unity of fellowship we share, and that in it we see an act of love.

    I read elsewhere (but I forget where) a discussion of Baptism in similar terms, as a sacrament in which the outward sign is – at some level – understood even of the untaught. Being washed is one of the first things a child experiences, usually happening even before his first food: children understand the power of washing to remove uncleanliness within days of birth.

    Thus, although a child may not (by the visible sign alone) understand all that the sacraments teach, yet, there is much which is communicated even without words.
