Downton Abbey

Just watched the first episode of the show. Definitely well written. It is also the first show that I have seen without a immediately positive portrayal of homosexual characters. The two closet homosexual characters are by far the least admirable. Regardless of your stance on homosexuality in pop culture, it is interesting to see a portrayal that does not make at least these two characters noble from the start.

Gutsy writing considering social conservatives do not as a whole approve of homosexuality on TV. Social progressives do not generally care for negative portrayals. It will be interesting to see where that story arc goes.

If you want something far lighter I suggest Downton Arby’s.

I think that since it’s a historical show, and historically homosexuality was not positively portrayed or openly practiced, then the show can present that without being politically incorrect. That being said, I was incredibly bored by the first episode and haven’t convinced myself to watch the next. Strange because I love historical fiction. Maybe it’s the genre because I didn’t much care for Pride & Prejudice type books/shows either.

As a self-proclaimed conservative, I’m not sure what’s wrong with portraying homosexuals as normal folks (not necessarily admirable or not). The friends I have that are homosexual are no different than other folks. Sure they are living in sin, but aren’t we all before Christ? For me, it seems equally incorrect for pop-culture to proclaim any non-Christian as admirable, homosexual or not. Just a thought from my study and consideration of the matter. Could definitely be wrong.

Thank you for sharing the Downton Arby’s! Hilarious!
