Words Mean Something
Have you ever wondered why some people say in a few words what the rest of us barely can say in so many? This man’s quote about words got me thinking.
“Words mean things, and if we’re concerned about hijacking a word we ought not hijack it on the other side of the road but use it the way the Bible does. “- Jared C. Wilson

give up your resolutions
I gave up doing New Year’s Resolutions about three years ago because I never kept them and ended up condemning myself for my “failure”. I hope you will give up yours too and exchange resolutions for goals. Every year I do try to set a goal for what I hope God will do in my life that year. What’s the difference? One is about making much of me. The other is about God making much of himself through me. New Year’s resolutions are generally started with the best of intentions and never fulfilled. I try to listen and wait on God to see what he’s going to do each new year. Why? He’s faithful, even when I am not (maybe especially when I am not). I also change during that period. If it’s his will, it will happen. If not, no biggie. It’s a win, win. Continue reading
my little black book
I waited all week to get it back. I have a few digital copies but none compare to my little black book. It is older than my children. I’ve had it longer than I’ve known my wife. I’ve written notes in it for years. Besides my little black book is better because it journals my life. It chronicles insights and embarrassments in to the mystery of the universe. The quality of a good little black book is immeasurable.
I left early to get to church today so I could get it back. It was exactly where I had laid it down after doing the kids service last week during Christmas. I was overjoyed getting it. I held it. I read through it throughout the service like a kid sneaking a comic in to 9th grade British lit. At the end of the service I laid it on the communion table. I went to help a guy move some stuff and when I went back to get it, it was gone! I hope someone returns my little black book, it has the secrets of my life in it. Granted, I could get another if it isn’t returned for whatever reason but I’d miss my copy of my Bible.
My current little black book is my 2nd to go M.I.A. The first was stolen at Bible College in Seminary. True story.
