I wanted to write every day for a year on this blog to connect with God and others. It hasn’t gone as well as I hoped.

My blog title at willadair.com is named after what I hope God is doing with my life. Sojourns with Jesus has always supposed to be about God and others. I don’t feel God much in my life. I am okay with that. Elijah didn’t feel God’s presence yet he was there in a still small voice. It isn’t suppose to be about the feeling, it is suppose to be about a God who will refresh you in relationship with him. It’s about him. I want to hear that voice so I’m going to rustle through the Bible for a while instead of blogging.

I also wrote this blog to connect with others but don’t really seem to be accomplishing that goal either. I am afraid I am just another voice that is little more than a tiny wave splashing in the ocean that is bloggerdom. I’m going to stop writing for a while. Maybe when I start again then I will have something worth saying and something people want to talk about and interact with.

So in the words of Truman Burbank “Good morning, and in case I don’t see ya, good afternoon, good evening, and good night.”

In the liturgical calendar August is ordinary time. There are no Christian holidays but even ordinary days like August 5th have events that still contribute to the tapestry of Christianity.

1604: Baptism of John Eliot, American “apostle to the Indians.” His evangelistic zeal led in 1649 to establishing the (missionary) Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in New England. John Eliot began a trend that would lead many Native Americans to Christ. I’m glad because I have ancestry from two native tribes.

1656: Eight Quakers from England arrived in Boston and were immediately imprisoned by the local Puritan authorities. (The church-and-state amalgam of Puritanism looked upon non-ritual Quakerism with suspicion, regarding it as theologically apostate and politically subversive). The dissenter movement began that would lead to the proper idea of separation of Church and State.

1869: Birth of Grant C. Tullar, American Methodist evangelist and music publisher. He is remembered today for composing the tune to the hymn, “Face to Face with Christ My Savior.” Below is the lyrics to his song.

Face to face with Christ, my Savior,
Face to face—what will it be,
When with rapture I behold Him,
Jesus Christ Who died for me?

Face to face I shall behold Him,
Far beyond the starry sky;
Face to face in all His glory,
I shall see Him by and by!

Only faintly now I see Him,
With the darkened veil between,
But a blessed day is coming,
When His glory shall be seen.

What rejoicing in His presence,
When are banished grief and pain;
When the crooked ways are straightened,
And the dark things shall be plain.

Face to face—oh, blissful moment!
Face to face—to see and know;
Face to face with my Redeemer,
Jesus Christ Who loves me so.

On wikipedia it states that “Honda remained president until his retirement in 1973, stayed on as director, and was appointed “supreme adviser” in 1983. His legendary status was such that People magazine placed him on their “25 Most Intriguing People of the Year” list for 1980, dubbing him “the Japanese Henry Ford.”"

“On that day there shall be a fountain opened for the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and uncleanness.” – God through the prophet Zechariah, in Zech. ch. 13 vs 1.

“O Lord, the hope of Israel, all who forsake you shall be put to shame; those who turn away from you shall be written in the earth, for they have forsaken the Lord, the fountain of living water.” – Jeremiah in Jer. ch. 17 vs 3.

On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” – Jesus in John ch. 7 vs 37-38.

“For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” – A elder in Heaven to John in Revelation ch. 7 vs 17.

From the pen of William Cowper.

There is a fountain filled with blood drawn from Emmanuel’s veins;
And sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains.
Lose all their guilty stains, lose all their guilty stains;
And sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains.

The dying thief rejoiced to see that fountain in his day;
And there have I, though vile as he, washed all my sins away.
Washed all my sins away, washed all my sins away;
And there have I, though vile as he, washed all my sins away.

Dear dying Lamb, Thy precious blood shall never lose its power
Till all the ransomed church of God be saved, to sin no more.
Be saved, to sin no more, be saved, to sin no more;
Till all the ransomed church of God be saved, to sin no more.

E’er since, by faith, I saw the stream Thy flowing wounds supply,
Redeeming love has been my theme, and shall be till I die.
And shall be till I die, and shall be till I die;
Redeeming love has been my theme, and shall be till I die.

When this poor lisping, stammering tongue lies silent in the grave.
Then in a nobler, sweeter song, I’ll sing Thy power to save,
I’ll sing Thy power to save,I’ll sing Thy power to save,
Then in a nobler, sweeter song, I’ll sing Thy power to save,

Lord, I believe Thou hast prepared, unworthy though I be,
For me a blood bought free reward, a golden harp for me!
’Tis strung and tuned for endless years, and formed by power divine,
To sound in God the Father’s ears no other name but Thine.

Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever. – John summing up all things in Revelation ch 22.

We own a dog and her name is Annabelle. We celebrate communion as Christians and have done so in our home. We would never give her communion because she’s a dog. Apparently some Anglican church members thinks the symbol of God’s body makes for a good dog treat.

Jesus says in Matthew 7:6 not to figuratively give what is holy to figurative dogs. He used dogs as illustration of a being that just did not get what was holy. Jesus meaning is people who have no clue of what really is holy will act just like dogs in that they will tare in to something with no foresight or thought. God is the ultimate animal lover yet Jesus illustration shows giving what is holy to a dog, figuratively or literally speaking, is just a bad idea. It seems that the new paritioner, minister, and all but one member of that congregation did not understand a very simple biblical principle.

Do not give what is holy to dogs.

I and my wife are discussing the baptism of our children. Eila was dedicated before my conviction on infant baptism. Asher has not been dedicated, outside our family, or baptized yet. As we discuss what baptism is and means I found this quote very interesting by John Piper.

Many of us came to faith and were baptized at a point when we did not know very much. This is good. It is expected that baptism happens early in the Christian walk when you do not know very much. So it is also expected that you will learn later more and more of what it means. Don’t think, “Oh, I must go back and get baptized again. I didn’t know it had all this meaning.” No. No. That would mean you would be getting re-baptized with every new course you take in Biblical theology. Rather, rejoice that you expressed your simple faith in obedience to Jesus and now are learning more and more of what it all meant.

Sounds like a good reason to baptize a child early on. They will grow in the grace that has been bestowed upon them. The most thought provoking question for me is where in Scripture is their a age limit on covenant inclusion?
